Making Statement

Weeks after Dylann Roof murdered nine people at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, Elonzo Wesley’s Jeremy Davis checked into a hotel outside of Nashville. On the cable channels, many newscasters were still talking about the massacre. Davis fell asleep with the TV on. He woke up in the middle of the night and started writing what would become the song “Emanuel.”
